How to survive a Performance Improvement plan?
I started a new job 5 months ago (after being made redundant, so it wasn?t my choice to change jobs) and ended up in the job from HELL. A very busy office, huge high pressured workload, foul tempered, bitter, angry team members, total lack of training, bad tempered boss. I couldn?t walk out, I have a family and a mortgage.
I have worked very, very hard to get up to speed with a total lack of trainig and support, and have made it, but manager started employee incapabilty procedures when I?d just been in the job a few weeks. We are now at the 2nd formal stage. I make sure I meet all targets (some are ridiculous and it involves bringing a lot of work home) But manger refused to record when I reach targets and makes excuses. The Dept may go out to tender, in which case, half of the team will need to go, and I?ll be first as I have only been there a short while. Im looking for another job but how on earth do I survive this? (Ive consulted HR who said file a grievance, which I did, the upshot of that was a discussion with the manager, all to no avail). The anxiety I now feel going into work every day is beyond what I can manage. Any good tips on how to survive? Sometimes the manager is friendly and nice and I think I?m imagining this! She is always very supportive and helpful to two other team members, but used to pick on one relentlessly when I first arrived.
Chosen Answer:
You need to stand back and reflect honestly whether you are capable of doing the job. If you are you probably have the opportuntiy for a second stage grievance at a level above your immediate manager. You should point out that you feel stressed and harrassed as a result of the way you are expected to work. Try and get a move out of the department as a result of your grievance
