Aaron Sorkin talks about future Steve Jobs movie, impact of technology on his writing

Aaron Sorkin at D10

You don't have to look far to get a grasp on who Aaron Sorkin is -- he wrote A Few Good Men, The American President, The West Wing, Moneyball and The Social Network, for starters -- and he showed up at D10 to talk creative media, how the digital age impacts his writing and his impending movie about late Apple CEO Steve Jobs. While not involving hard technology news, the interview was exceedingly refreshing, and it delved deep into the world of tech as it impacts his upcoming show about a fictional newsroom (The Newsroom on HBO). The highlights included a frank quote that whoever ends up playing Jobs in his movie -- not to be confused with the one already in production with Ashton Kutcher -- will have to be "good, and intelligent." He also confessed to being fully engaged in the "three screens" movement, but wasn't too prideful to admit that he taps into the brain of his 11-year old daughter for lots of technological help. Pretty wild for a guy that many would label "genius." For more from the interview, head on past the break.

You Should Hire Other Entrepreneurs | TalentRefresh | Small ...

Candidates with dreams of starting their own business can actually make great hires for yours, argues one expert on entrepreneurship-obsessed Gen Y.

When Millennial Branding and analytics company Identified.com combed through millions of Facebook profiles recently to glean insights about how the social network is being used professionally, they discovered something surprising?among young people (so-called Gen Y) the fifth most popular job title was ?owner.?

At the time, Millennial Branding?s managing partner Dan Schawbel told Inc.com that he believes the entrepreneurial life appeals to younger workers because, ?they can have an impact on Day 1, whereas in a large company, they would have to go through months of training only to be stuck in a single role.? They also ?saw their parents work for large companies for decades and don?t want to same fate. They don?t trust large companies,? he noted.

All of which is well and good if you?re a young person bent on starting a business and want to know you?re not alone. But if you?re a bit older and the owner of a more established business, what good could this information possibly do you? After all, you?re pressing concern is how to hire and get the best out of new talent and it doesn?t help you any if the primary interest of so many of potential hires is striking out on their own, does it?

Not so fast, Schawbel answers in a recent column for the American Express OPEN Forum blog. Young folks with entrepreneurial dreams can actually make great hires for your business. What benefits does hiring your fellow entrepreneur offer?

?These ?kindred spirits? would make the best employees for your small business. Who better understands that a lack of resources and manpower forces you to work harder in the initial stages than a young entrepreneur?? writes Schawbel. ?Not only will these fresh-faced workers offer a breath of fresh air into your staff, they will bring a different perspective as well. Eventually you?re going to have to sell your service or product to members of Gen Y, and who would better understand the needs of Millennials better than Gen Y themselves?? he continues.

But getting the most out of team members with their own entrepreneurial dreams requires you handle these hires in a particular way, according to Schawbel. Forget railroading them into narrow, controlled roles that don?t put their dynamism to fill use. Instead, Schawbel suggests allowing their entrepreneurialism space to benefit your business:

It?s important to understand that merely hiring young entrepreneurs and then forcing them to surrender their ideas is pointless. Many corporations are embracing the idea of empowering their workers to become ?intrepreneurs??acting like a small business under the umbrella of a bigger business. Richard Branson recently endorsed the style of workplace ethic. You don?t have to sacrifice your visions of your company, but it?s vital to keep an open mind to the ideas your employees bring to the table.

Would you hire a young person with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur?

How climate change destroyed one of the world's largest civilizations

Located in present-day India and Pakistan, the Harappan civilization fell victim to shifting monsoon patterns, a new study has found.?

By Charles Choi,?LiveScience Contributor / May 30, 2012

The mysterious fall of the largest of the world's earliest urban civilizations nearly 4,000 years ago in what is now India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh now appears to have a key culprit ? ancient climate change, researchers say.

Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia may be the best known of the first great urban cultures, but the largest was the Indus or Harappan civilization. This culture once extended over more than 386,000 square miles (1 million square kilometers) across the plains of the Indus River from?the Arabian Sea?to the Ganges, and at its peak may have accounted for 10 percent of the world population. The civilization developed about 5,200 years ago, and slowly disintegrated between 3,900 and 3,000 years ago ? populations largely abandoned cities, migrating toward the east.

"Antiquity knew about Egypt and Mesopotamia, but the Indus civilization, which was bigger than these two, was completely forgotten until the 1920s," said researcher Liviu Giosan, a geologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. "There are still many things we don't know about them." [Photos: Life and Death of Ancient Urbanites]

Nearly a century ago, researchers began discovering numerous remains of Harappan settlements along the Indus River and its tributaries, as well as in a vast desert region at the border of India and Pakistan. Evidence was uncovered for sophisticated cities, sea links with Mesopotamia, internal trade routes, arts and crafts, and as-yet undeciphered writing.

"They had cities ordered into grids, with exquisite plumbing, which was not encountered again until the Romans," Giosan told LiveScience. "They seem to have been a more democratic society than Mesopotamia and Egypt ? no large structures were built for important personalitiess like kings or pharaohs."

Like their contemporaries in Egypt and Mesopotamia,?the Harappans, who were named after one of their largest cities, lived next to rivers.

"Until now, speculations abounded about the links between this mysterious ancient culture and its life-giving mighty rivers," Giosan said.

Carnival of Personal Finance #363 ? Never Forget

Today I will be BBQ?ing just like every other American family. But memorial day will always have a different meaning for me.

You might think that serving overseas might have something to do with it ? and it does. But that?s not the only reason.

It wasn?t until several years after returning home that Memorial Day took on a special meaning for me.

The day that I learned SSG Joshua Melton, a father, a husband, a true warrior ? a brother in arms that served with me in Iraq and then volunteered to serve again in Afghanistan ? was killed by an IED while on a mission.

Josh didn?t have to do again. Truth be told, I got out of the military after my enlistment was done so that I didn?t have to deploy again. There are days that I feel selfish for this decision. As if serving one 16 month deployment wasn?t good enough.

Others may consider me a hero, but the true heroes are those like Josh that served, not because they had to ? because they loved their country.

You may know one of these heroes or a family member of these heroes. Take some time today and remember to thank them for the awesome sacrifice they have done.

It?s the least we can do.

Never forget.

Watch your tongue and keep your thoughts true to your goals. This week aggressive Mars in critical Virgo is causing trouble with Mercury (your thoughts) in Gemini (communications with others). If someone get?s in the way of a daily routine that has taken several months to finally perfect, there?s a chance you can explode. Let it pass quickly. This tension can easily motivate change without a freak out. It?s up to you.

Get ready for the money. Jupiter has spent a year working on your self esteem and now gets ready to enter your personal money sector. Currently Venus is in there and she is retrograde so it feels like all of the blessings have stopped. This is not true. It?s like an elastic band that?s just gaining tension and preparing to spring. Get ready.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

There?s a lot of powerful energy surrounding you beginning right now. It?s all about what you want and how you go after it. If you?re the type who sits around waiting for someone else to do things you will lose. If you do it yourself you will win. Think as big as you can and go for it. The bigger the idea, the more chance for success. After all that, you will be faced with some moments where you?ll wonder ?seriously?? and ?wtf?. Roll with it.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

Lovers from the past invade your dreams with an allure to relive past romances. It?s just a dream but it can also be fun. Take this time to heal yourself from the inside. Your energy focus is self-love and healing. Don?t sink too deeply.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

It?s important for you to be out in the public where people can see you. Helpers from the past, return with new offers. Listen closely to all offers. In a short time you will meet someone who has the ability to make all of your dreams come true. Talk to everyone. Listen to yourself. An answer arrives late in the week.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

There?s finally a dream lover waiting on the horizon. As clouds clear you?ll get to see someone in a new light and you like it. A dream job offer arrives from a close friend.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

You don?t have to make that decision you?ve been anguishing over. Another couple of days and clarity arrives. You like what you see more than you ever expected. Things change and you?re going to have to get used to it. You didn?t get everything you ultimately felt you wanted but you?re going to have so much more.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

If the planets have any say, you?ve been flirting your sexy tail off and people have noticed. Venus is retrograde is your 8th astro-sector and this is all stuff close to your heart, financial partnerships, death, transformations, the occult, sex, mysteries, and healing. This placement emphasises the outward success you can have with someone close but it is currently feeling like the love has dried up. Your teammates will return very shortly with a ton of love. The question is, as a scorpio, can you welcome back someone who left you stranded?

sex love and relationship horoscopes

There?s a lot going on with you and close relationships right now and soon it?s going to get even better. This week however, the brakes are on and it sucks. The past is haunting. Make peace and move on. The problem is you?ve wrapped yourself in the most bizarre illusion and you?re sucking others into your drama. Clarity begins at the end of the week.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

Keep moving. Work your plan, every day. Go to the gym. Double check your bills. This is the time to be working through your plan. It might feel like a get nowhere kind of week but keep going. You?re making progress. Illusions intensify at the end of the week. Last chance to take a chance.

sex love and relationship horoscopes

It?s difficult to believe that you?ll get any luckier than this but it?s coming. Love is on the freeze for another week but this just means it has a chance to breathe and build excitement. A little patience and some wonderful insights rule the beginning of the week.

sex love and relationships horoscope

Tension at home and the waters get warm. It should be a time of love but it feels like change is coming fast. You might feel extra taxed as you extend to help someone close. Watch for an energy drain at the end of the week.

Farmhouses, Yellow Fields and Spargel | Family Tree Tours

German trip May 2012

Well I am home from Germany now and I always have good intentions of blogging every day when I am there, but that never happens. Never enough time, although I do take train or car time to jot down a few notes. ?So, I will try to write about things now as I look through the pictures.

We usually do a trip in May because Germany is such a pleasure to the eye in May. Yellow fields of rapeseed blooming in fields scattered over the hillsides looking like a patchwork quilt, tons of lilacs blooming and rhododendron and hydrangea. ?It was gorgeous.

I had a few days before we met our clients for a personal heritage tour and we decided to visit a local ?landlord?s? house called Schloss Hunnefeld, located near Bad Essen. In the olden days the landlord was the person who was in charge of collecting the rents and taxes from the small farmers. ?In the 13th century Schloss Hunnefeld ? was a moated ?water? castle. ?Today you come down a long lane into a large clearing and see the impressive residence. The building is a three-winged two story in the Renaissance style. ?There is a small island in the moat now and behind it a beautiful English garden. ?There also is French style dovecote from the 1700?s. ?I could picture the small farmer walking his way down the long lane with his hard earned money or livestock or whatever he had as payment.

In the building where the caf? is now was the counting house, or the place where taxes and rents were collected. ? I guess a little history of the ?farm system? in Germany is in order. ?Of course this is a generalization, different areas had different laws and different systems but the farm system had been around for centuries, its roots go back to the Germanic tribes, who were nomads and whose economy was based on summer military campaigns, in which the men earned the tribes living by plunder. ?When they settled down to more agricultural pursuits versus the nomadic lifestyle, they needed the protection against other marauding tribes so they pledged service and fealty to their warrior overlords. ?By the end of the Middle Ages, military protection by the overlords was not needed as much, so the overlords settled down too. ?Land and income from agricultural products replaced plunder as their primary source of income, and the relationship of overlord and peasant farmer became firmly established. ?At least this is what I have read and I am sure there are probably more complicated reasons but this serf and lord system was around for centuries and German villages and farms used to ?belong? to someone that they owed taxes and rents too. ?We have found records for some of these big farms that list all the small farms they owned and how much they collected etc. ?Sometimes (not sure how often as I have not personally seen that many) they might list the farmers names that were under their control. ?Of course in the Northwest of Germany the larger farms had the names and whoever lived there took that name. But that is a story for another day.

time Posted in Uncategorized

Are you wondering about the benefits of PPC advertising? There are numerous ways in which PPC marketing can be helpful in making money online.

Due to the increasing importance of online advertising, the Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising networks are growing in number. Google Adwords is the most popular ppc system for both advertisers and affiliates.

Yahoo Marketing offers a good alternative to Google and it can be lower in cost dependant upon the specific niche market your business is in. Bing is owned by Microsoft.

PayPerClickAcademy.com is a web site that offers an in depth look into ppc advertising. They provide assistance with finding affiliate offers to promote along with a good introduction to pay per click marketing for newbies.

Let?s look a little more into detail on PPC advertising.

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising will pay the publishers once the visitors click on the ads. On the other hand, the advertisers benefit from it once they make a sale.

Therefore, for both the publishers and the advertisers, the PPC ads really are a key method to obtain online income. The visitors and the advertising networks also form a very important part of the PPC advertising world. Advertising can?t be positioned without the marketing networks and it cannot be seen without actual visitors.

Advantages of Pay Per Click Ads

The publisher is paid per click once the website visitors click on the ads which are posted on their website or blog. You can have just one single blog or several blogs for placing the ads.

The advertisers look for a legitimate web site where their advertisements will be shown. Because of this, the PPC advertising networks form a platform between the advertisers and publishers so that all are able to do business online.

1. With regard to Publishers: Pay Per Click is a beneficial way of making money because the visitors click the ads searching for information. More traffic results in more money from the ads. Also, the cost per click varies as per the keywords and the website with higher quality content generates a great income for that publisher.

2. With regard to Advertisers: Advertisers constantly need to promote their products on a associated web site to ensure that their products reach worldwide. That results in more sales making more profit for them. The price of the advertising is not that high since the advertisers can easily earn profits when their products are purchased.

3. For Advertising Networks: Advertising networks benefit from their business because they obtain good income from the advertisers.

Moreover, they can earn more from other sorts of advertising with their websites. In short, the advertising networks also have a website that becomes a very important platform for online advertising.

4. For Visitors: Those that click the PPC ads are forwarded to the website where they can buy the genuine products.

Some websites sell excellent products and some websites are only for advertising to achieve popularity. Finally, the visitor benefits after buying the product in the comfort of their home.

Online Business While We Snooze

Altogether, when we see the world of Online marketing, it is completely surviving on the basis of online advertising. No matter what, new websites are being created by the publishers so that the PPC advertising makes a good income for them even while they sleep.

The publishers put the ads on their blogs just once and the advertisers create the adverts only once. Both of them can relax and benefit even when they?re fast asleep.

The online advertising has many benefits; however, it also needs great consistency. A publisher remains constant while developing a blog and the advertiser remains consistent until the profit is made. Overall the benefits of the PPC advertising are amazing for everyone at all levels.

US faces surge of new vets seeking disability

America's newest veterans are filing for disability benefits at a historic rate, claiming to be the most medically and mentally troubled generation of former troops in US history. The troubled economy may be a factor.

A staggering 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now seeking compensation for injuries they say are service-related. That is more than double the estimate of 21 percent who filed such claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s, top government officials told The Associated Press.

What's more, these new veterans are claiming eight to nine ailments on average, and the most recent ones over the last year are claiming 11 to 14. By comparison, Vietnam veterans are currently receiving compensation for fewer than four, on average, and those from World War II and Korea, just two.

IN PICTURES:?Memorial Day: remembering the fallen

It's unclear how much worse off these new veterans are than their predecessors. Many factors are driving the dramatic increase in claims ? the weak economy, more troops surviving wounds, and more awareness of problems such as concussions and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Almost one-third have been granted disability so far.

Government officials and some veterans' advocates say that veterans who might have been able to work with certain disabilities may be more inclined to seek benefits now because they lost jobs or can't find any. Aggressive outreach and advocacy efforts also have brought more veterans into the system, which must evaluate each claim to see if it is war-related. Payments range from $127 a month for a 10 percent disability to $2,769 for a full one.

As the U.S. commemorates the more than 6,400 troops who died in post-Sept. 11, 2001 wars, the problems of those who survived also draw attention. These new veterans are seeking a level of help the government did not anticipate, and for which there is no special fund set aside to pay.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is mired in backlogged claims, but "our mission is to take care of whatever the population is," said Allison Hickey, the VA's undersecretary for benefits. "We want them to have what their entitlement is."

The 21 percent who filed claims in previous wars is Hickey's estimate of an average for the 1990-91 Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield to oust Iraqi troops from Kuwait. The VA has details only on the current disability claims being paid to veterans of each war.

The AP spent three months reviewing records and talking with doctors, government officials and former troops to take stock of the new veterans. They are different in many ways from those who fought before them.

More are from the Reserves and National Guard ? 28 percent of those filing disability claims ? rather than career military. Reserves and National Guard made up a greater percentage of troops in these wars than they did in previous ones. About 31 percent of Guard/Reserve new veterans have filed claims compared to 56 percent of career military ones.

Report: Redbox Looks to Canada for Expansion

Citizens of the Great White North may soon be getting a Redbox kiosk in their neighborhood. Redbox is reported to be bringing its kiosks to Walmart stores across Canada, and according to a report from The Globe and Mail,?Redbox has signed an agreement with Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc.

Redbox interim president Gregg Kaplan is enthusiastic about the new expansion:

?Historically, a pretty good rule of thumb, what we?ve seen in other businesses is that Canada can get to roughly 1/10 the size of the U.S. market . . . We?re not projecting that yet because we haven?t had the experience there, but it feels like it could be sizable.?

Redbox?s Canadian pricing will reportedly come in 50-cents higher than U.S. pricing for DVD, Blu-ray and video game rentals.

How well do you think Redbox will fare north of the border?

Facebook's Cheap Wedding Ring

Facebook's Cheap Wedding Ring

Priscilla Chan married into serious money in Mark Zuckerberg?s back garden over the weekend.
She seems happy with her husband?s custom designed ruby wedding ring, but Facebook?s owner has been slammed for being cheap.

Grazia Daily reported the ring is estimated to be worth a ?measly? $25, 000. My God, what a pathetic ring that must be. What a poor bride.?

It?s not just the ring being slammed. The couple?s honeymoon, or lack of it, has been questioned. Psychologists have even scrutinized their wedding photo, because it ?lacks emotional intimacy.?

What happened to just being happy? ?

Why do all wedding photos have to be monochrome snaps of newlyweds gazing at each other? Why do rich people need to be married on the Hawaiian island they own? ?Why do the press have to be invited?

Forgive my ignorance. It must be one of those ?unwritten? wedding rules that commoners know nothing about.

Zuckerberg?s probably more concerned with the plummeting price of Facebook shares to be worrying if his wife?s ring finger is feeling left out. Surely the effort he put personally designing the ring is worth more than dollar signs?

Do you think Mark Zuckerberg is being cheap? Would you expect a massive rock on your finger? Is it true that the thought put in is worth more than the money spent?

Report details Tim Cook's changes at Apple, for better or worse

Enlarge / Apple CEO Tim Cook

Chris Foresman

Since taking over for former Apple CEO Steve Jobs last August, newly minted CEO Tim Cook has slowly made a number of changes to how things are done at the company. Whereas Jobs was mercurial, Cook is apparently genteel. Whereas Jobs downplayed labor issues in China, Cook has personally visited factory floors and met with Chinese officials.

Fortune editor Adam Lashinsky, who recently detailed Apple's inner workings in his book Inside Apple, is well suited to note such "subtle but significant changes." In a recently published report for Fortune, Lashinsky makes the case that Cook is leaving an indelible mark on Apple and its corporate culture.

Though Cook is maintaining "most" of Apple's corporate culture, largely implemented by Jobs since he took the helm in 1997, he is reportedly "taking action that Apple sorely needed and employees badly wanted." And while many of the changes seem positive, not everyone is so sure that those changes are necessarily for the better.

Here are a few examples from the report that caught our attention:

  • Since taking over at Apple, the company's stock performance has been remarkably similar to its performance at the time Jobs took over in 1997. After three quarters, however, AAPL is up 42 percent, while after Jobs's first three quarters, it had only risen 21 percent. "By any quantitative measure, so far his performance is phenomenal," Bill Shope, a Goldman Sachs research analyst, told Fortune.
  • A former vice president at Apple believes the company is becoming more "corporate" and "conservative," noting that the company resembles more of a "conservative execution engine" than an engineering-run organization. "I've been told that any meeting of significance is now always populated by project management and global-supply management," Max Paley, a 14-year Apple veteran who left in 2011, told Fortune. "When I was there, engineering decided what we wanted, and it was the job of product management and supply management to go get it."
  • Apple employees are known for their dedication, passion, and long work hours. But the "90 hours a week and loving it" attitude seems to be relaxing under Cook. One former Apple employee described meeting a current engineer for lunch and expecting his former co-worker to rush back to work after eating. Instead, he offered to take time to have a coffee."The outsider's conclusion: 'I think people are breathing now.' It's not necessarily a compliment," Lashinsky wrote.
  • Unlike Jobs, who preferred to eat with design chief Jony Ive, Cook reportedly tends to sit down at the Apple corporate cafeteria and eat with various workers. "It is a small difference that speaks volumes about how employees can expect to interact with their CEO," Lashinsky wrote. "Cook clearly is a demanding boss, but he's not scary. He's well-respected, but not worshiped."

The whole report is worth a read, so check it out when you have a chance.

So you want to be a Human Resources professional?

?

Human Resources Management (HRM) is one of the hardest business arenas into which to get established, especially at a management level. So many (predominantly female) have to work their way up through the ranks, including paying dues as a ?grunge level staff member? (e.g., HR clerical assistant). I had to start as a entry-level generalist, even though I had a Master?s Degree in Adult Education with a focus on Training and Development in Human Resources.

?

If you are in a military retirement town (like I am, near Norfolk), you are also in competition with many military retirees with degrees in HR (but unfortunately are not really versed or practiced in the commercial world of HR). In the military, those in HR functions perform mostly administrative work. In the corporate-world, HRMs have oversight of benefits, compensation plans, legal compliance, training and development, annual evaluations, communications, and payroll. In the military, the federal government deals with many of these oversight functions versus the military veteran HRM. (This is not to downgrade HRM service members, especially those who have degrees; there is a huge amount of compliance in the private, commercial industry to which they haven?t been exposed as a government employee.)

?

Yes ? there are limited opportunities, as I noted above for the competition. You could have an ?in? for getting an HR position a little higher than a clerical job. If you have background and skills in accounting, payroll, recruiting, or training, those should open many doors in companies which need an HR person who also monitors, regulates, and has financial decision-making responsibility in those functions. Another niche would be Social Media, with the capability of unique sourcing skills, which would qualify you for HR-related public relations (company branding as employer of choice) or recruiting and headhunting. Work yourself into a job with those niche qualities and experience, then aim towards parallel or higher positions as a HRM with more mainline tasks in the HR realm.

Ideas to provide ? foot-in-the-door? experience to add another resume bullet:

?

  • Visit your local Retail Alliance, Chamber of Commerce, and Better Business Bureaus. Create your own ?internship? by offering your services as a Payroll/HR/Recruiter/Social Media Manager. If you can afford to do it for free, do so; otherwise, ask for minimum wage. (DOL law states internships must be paid if intern is predominantly learning about job functions, while unpaid internships must be ?in training? for a larger percentage of time on the job.)
  • If you can?t find enough interest from those business venues, go to www.MeetUp.com, and look for entrepreneurial business groups. Many of these groups have free membership. Announce your desires to obtain an internship (paid/unpaid) to add HR experience to your resume or to get a job. If members don?t necessarily have a need, they might know someone else. There are some Job Club groups on this site, also.
  • Look in non-profit organizations, private schools, local government offices who might need an intern for niche skills; work for a few months (length of time related to salary required).
  • Find a mentor. Obtaining an HR mentor who can meet with you for lunch or let you job-shadow for about a week might be helpful to learning and experience for a resume bullet as well as a recommendation.
  • Don?t look only in Monster.com or CareerBuilder for jobs. Find other job posting boards. Search LinkedIn groups (job boards, career, and trades) to join discussions in group?s or to review job postings. Answer questions related to HR in the LinkedIn Q&A forum ? see who comments ? then reach out to touch base.
  • Query in WordPress for job notices or job boards and search out headhunters and recruiters who place folks in jobs of all levels.
  • Don?t overlook Temp Work Agencies for jobs with HR or that niche experience.
  • Look for HR or Personnel Management events, Recruiting and Career Search Job Fairs, or even Job Clubs in Facebook and LinkedIn. Attend conferences, conventions, state chapters of SHRM, ASTD, and CEBS to network. Use business card info to continue discussions ?off-line.?
  • Don?t ask for a job directly from these new contacts, but ask if they know of anyone with a need for an entry-level management HRM or niche specialists that may lead to a HR mid-management level job.
  • ?

A 1970 research study by Mark Granovetter demonstrated it?s not your close personal contacts who can network you a job (16.7%), it?s primarily through ?barely know them acquaintances.? The economy still is ?down? for many job searches and the human resources fields are often affected a little harder because some companies feel an HR person is one of the non-revenue positions they can spare. Use these ideas to open doors (and windows) to that Human Resources (or other!) position you are working to break into the field.
