Creating Better Personal Philosophy of Life
Personal philosophy is your beliefs, attitude, ideas and view of life. Your personal perspective determines your way of life and living. You choose, make decisions and judgments and live your life based on this personal viewpoint.
Your personal outlook of life was formed during your childhood, learning and growing years. The beliefs and mental attitude or frame of mind are not necessarily true or correct nor helpful. If you have an erroneous personal philosophy, you will have trouble living a meaningful, fulfilling and satisfying life.
You probably do not have a personal philosophy statement written down and are not aware that you are approaching life and living based on your basic beliefs. It is wise to reflect on how your attitudes have been influencing your decisions, communication, relationships and life in general. If these conceptions have not helped you improve, it's time to form new sets of beliefs.
Awareness
It is necessary to be aware and conscious of your present beliefs, perceptions or thoughts. One of the ways to recognize them is to start doing a self examination or self reflection. What it means is that you must start asking yourself some serious questions and justify your answers.
- What do I believe in about life?
- What do I accept as true about myself?
- What is my role in life? What am I here for?
- What is my view about life right now?
- Who and what has been influencing my thinking?
- What is my opinion about money, wealth, success and failure?
- How have my beliefs affect and influence my decisions, career and relationships?
If this is your first time reflecting on your personal philosophy of life, you may not have all the answers and everything seem vague. It is alright because this exercise makes you aware of your beliefs about something.
Reflect on Your Experiences
Gather all your life experiences from childhood and reflect on them. You will gain lots of insights. Keep a journal and write down your daily thoughts, actions and activities. At the end of the day and the week, look through your notes and examine your motives and beliefs.
When you can recognize why you do certain things and how they relate to your beliefs, you can determine which are beneficial. You can then decide which to follow through or eliminate. All these information will help you create empowering beliefs.
Seek Knowledge
What you don't know will hurt you. In order to have a sound personal philosophy of life and understanding, you must acquire more knowledge, try more things and develop your skills. If you don't have sufficient experiences, search for references. Read books and collect new information. Examine other people's beliefs, observe their attitudes, learn from them and emulate the good ones.
Acquire a Superior Way of Thinking and Behaving
Move away from being a follower and decide to take control of your own thinking. Choose your own goals and chart your own course. Keep your focus on your goals and what's important to you. Stop talking and thinking about what you don't want in your life. Start instead to talk, think and do things that will bring you closer to your goals in life.
Create a Philosophy Statement
Your philosophy statement must include the values and principles that you are committed to live by and those things that you would not tolerate in your life. You should write it from your heart and with a strong conviction. Write down in simple sentences what you believe in and how you will use them to approach life.
As you live by your new philosophy, you will become more conscious and gain insights on what life means to you and how you want to live it. Be flexible and make changes as you move along in life.
Act on It
Act on your new set of beliefs. As you progress and develop new life experiences, you will develop self confidence. Knowledge with action will help you conquer fear. When doubts and fears are gone, you see your world with a new pair of eyes.
