It was a team management?s decision to drop Abdul Razzaq, says Zaka Ashraf ? Cricket News Update
Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB),? has said that not playing Abdul Razzaq in the semi-final of the ICC World T20 2012 against Sri Lanka at Colombo was a team management?s decision and no individual should be blamed for it.
The seasoned all-rounder was not included in the playing-11 for any match of the mega event before getting a game against Australia. Abdul Razzaq impressed in the match, scoring a vital 22 off merely 17 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries and a massive hit out of the park.
However, the 32-year-old cricketer was sidelined in the semi-final once again, with Sohail Tanvir getting the nod because of his ability to deliver the goods with the new ball.
Pakistan lost the all-important fixture by 16 runs, failing to qualify for the final of the illustrious tournament.
Upon his arrival back home, the hard-hitting batsman lashed out on the captain, Mohammad Hafeez, for dropping him in a ?do or die? encounter. Abdul Razzaq claims that he would have won the match for the country, had he been played.
The all-rounder has already been given a show-cause notice by the PCB and will have to respond to that in order to avoid any penalty.
Ashraf, while talking to the reporters in Lahore, said that the team management has the right to select the playing-11 which meets their strategy and the experienced cricketer should have refrained from giving public statements.
?It was not my decision to exclude all-rounder Abdul Razzaq from the team for semi-final of Twenty World Cup. The team management decided the formation of the team with mutual consultation before the semi-final and it is not wise to blame any one on the exclusion or selection,??said the Chairman PCB.
He also hopes that international cricket will be back in Pakistan very soon and revealed that ICC is also taking necessary steps towards this goal.
He added, ?The ICC fully supports Pakistan as far as return of international cricket is concerned and it is very serious on this issue and we are confident that we will see international cricket activity in our own backyard in near future.??
